ELCA World Hunger Drive

By joining together with members of ELCA congregations across our country, we can be great force in fighting hunger around the world.  Coin collection boxes are available in the Narthex.  Every $150 that is collected will provide a water pump to a family or community.

We Care

We Care was formed by the local churches combining their outreach efforts from one location.  We Care provides assistance for a surprising number of people in need: financially, with food and clothing, transportation, guiding people to temporary or permanent housing and assisting with job skills.  We continuously collect food and dollars for this organization.  They can always use another jar of peanut butter and a box of crackers among other food items for homeless and families who are in need in the Los Alamitos area.  This organization does a tremendous job and they gratefully appreciate our help, please give generously.  If you'd like more information, visit their web site:  www.wecarelosalamitos.org

Paper or Plastic? --  If you have any paper grocery bags with handles laying around your house, We Care can use them for their distributions.  Just leave them in the We Care box in the Narthex.

Pastor's Pantry

Our pastor administers this benevolence fund that is used primarily as a financial support for church members in need and occasionally for transient visitors in need of immediate help.  The funds are dispersed at the pastor's discretion and usually help with food, housing, transportation or medical assistance.  The Pastor's Pantry is funded primarily from members' donations with an occasional gift from organizations.  Many have been helped this way and your support is greatly appreciated.  To donate, mark a giving envelope "Pastor's Pantry" and drop it in the offering plate on Sunday morning or drop it off at the church office.

Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission

Located in Rock Point, Arizona, the mission serves a small, isolated community on the Navajo Reservation.  The nearest facility for basic groceries and health care is 55 miles away, and for any other supplies it is well over 100 miles!  Many homes lack electricity, running water, phone service and other amenities most of us take for granted.  Jobs are few, and unemployment is high.  But, it is also a place of desert beauty, matched by very special people.  The school has a record enrollment of 65 students this year.  Many improvements to the mission have been implemented; however, the year remains to be challenging, financially.

Any financial support we can provide will go a long way.  $850 supports a child for the school year; $1,000 will help develop needed services in the community; $3,000 supports a classroom for the school year (K-6th); $5,000 will repair the playground for the children; $10,000 will help complete additional repairs at the Mission.

You can give through the church or mail your contribution directly to the mission at P.O. Box 354, Rock Point, AZ 86545.

We continuously collect Campbell's labels and General Food's "Box Tops for Education" for the mission which in turn uses the labels to buy a 15-passenger van and uses the box tops for educational equipment.  Drop them in the box in the Narthex.  To find out which labels to collect, click  here  for the Campbell's web page.

They need thread and virtually any type of cloth that can be used to fill the quilts - old sheets, washable curtains, bed spreads, mattress pads, etc.  For more info or to provide help, contact Marti Mazzari.
